In 2024, I completed a six-month journalism internship with Mongabay, a U.S.-based non-profit conservation and environmental science news platform that tells stories from nature’s frontline across the globe.

I had applied for this internship for four consecutive years, and in late December 2023, when I opened my email and saw the subject line “Mongabay Internship: It’s good news this time,” I was humbled and thrilled to be given the opportunity to learn and write for the publication.

During my internship, I wrote five stories covering topics such as salmon reintroduction by the Sinixt First Nation, African rhino conservation amidst climate change, seabird contributions to coral recovery, renewable energy mining implications for great apes in Africa, and sustainable turtle hunting policies in Africa.

I learned to craft compelling pitches, write ledes, interview scientists and experts, and worked with four different editors to ensure my stories were accurate and engaging.

I’m grateful for this incredible opportunity. You can read my stories here.
